Competition format

The competition will be run under British Fencing Rules with a single round of pools. All competitors will be promoted to direct elimination without repechage. The organisers reserve the right to make changes to ensure the smooth running of any of the competitions.

If demand is sufficient a plate may be run with a small additional charge.

Medals will be awarded to those placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd equal in each competition.

Competition eligibility

This event is open to fencers who live within the county boundary of Essex or are members of Clubs who by virtue of geography or history are eligible to affiliate to the Essex County Fencing Union.

All fencers must be members of the British Fencing Association. This includes social members who are able to surrender their single local competition voucher. A valid card must be produced to check in.

Equipment

All equipment must conform to the current British Fencing Guidelines for Safety.

Masks must be without rust, holes or deformation and must have an elastic backstrap.

Clothing must be free from tears and damage or weakness. A regulation plastron must be worn.

Gloves must overlap the sleeve.

The Essex County Fencing Union recommends that all fencers wear 350N or 800N breaches. Fencers competing in the under 10, under 12 or under 14 events, may replace breaches by strong full-length trousers or tracksuit trousers, provided all openings and pockets are zipped, sewn or taped closed. The trousers must cover the whole leg, shorts are not permitted. Fencers competing in the under 16 event must wear 350N breaches as a minimum.

Socks must be of sufficient length to ensure that the legs are fully covered.

Fencers must also have access to a spare weapon and bodywire.

Conditions of Entry

All fencers and spectators participate at their own risk, and are personally responsible for their own safety. Spectators are admitted to the venue, and entries accepted, on the understanding that the British Fencing Association, the Essex County Fencing Union, the organising committee, the officials, the referees and the staff of the venue of the competition cannot accept responsibility for accidents, loss or damage to persons or property, however caused.

All children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the competition.

The competition can only run if we are able to use the electric scoring equipment supplied by entering clubs. It is a condition of entry that every club entering brings at least one complete set of spools, box and ground leads. Please help things to run more smoothly by bringing as many as possible.

Cancellation

If insufficient entries are received by the closing date to make the competition financially viable the event will be cancelled. Entrants will be informed by the email address provided in their entry form and their entry fee refunded. An announcement will also be made on the County website.
